Itinerary Help, 14 Days In Thailand How Many Cities?

Hi All,

Finally booked my first ticket to Thailand for Summer 2018. It will be me and my wife (both 30 somethings) coming in from NYC at midnight to BKK on a Friday Night.

We have started doing tons of research, but would like to get feedback on our Itinerary. This is our possible Plan A & B.

Itinerary A:

1) 5 Nights in Bangkok (Fraser Suites) Nightlife, Bars, Floating Markets, Regular Markets Temples, Mall or Two, Maybe a cheap river ride, Lots of Food.

2) 4 Nights in Phuket Patpong Area: Beach, Nightlife, Elephant Sanctuary, Food, Food, Food

3) 4 Nights Krabi Ao Nang, or Railay area: Beach, Day Trips, Khao Sok National Park, recuperate for ride back to NYC

4) 1 full night in Bangkok: Souvenirs last minute to dos, Flight leave at 1 AM next Day.

Itinerary B:

1) 4 Nights in Bangkok (Fraser Suites) Nightlife, Bars, Floating Markets, Regular Markets Temples, Mall or Two, Maybe a cheap river ride, Lots of Food.

2) 2 Nights in Chang Mai: Elephant Sanctuary, Food, a quick must see site or two.

3) 2 Nights Phuket Patong Area: Beach, Nightlife, Food, Food, Food

4) 4 Nights Krabi Ao Nang, or Railay area: Beach, Day Trips, Khao Sok National Park, recuperate for ride back to NYC

5) 1 full night in Bangkok: Souvenirs last minute to do's, Flight leave at 1 AM next Day.

We are leaning towards plan B right now, but don't want to suffer burn out. We plan to fly in all instances possible so very little time is wasted.Again we are actually seeking it all in this trip; however all out partying as it pertains to nightlife is not on our to priorities.

All help appreciated. If it helps we are on a $3000-3500 USD spending budget between us for the 2 weeks

I'd lean towards A. B seems a little too much travel and you don't get enough time in CM.

5 days might be a little long for just BKK, so think of having a day trip out to Kanchanaburi and the River Kwai.

Other than that, looks very reasonable.

On a point of pedantic detail, note that Patpong is in BKK and Patong is in Phuket. Probably only a typo, but wouldn't want you to book a hotel in Patpong then try and find it 1000 miles south!

Thanks Duly Noted, that was a typo, but an important one. I figured I may be pushing it. Chang Mai seems to be quite interesting though.

Yes, CM is interesting. In my opinion, not so much the city but the surrounding province. In that respect, that's why you need more than 48 hours.

What would you say if I could make it 3 in Chang Mai and cut a BK day?

I'd say it was better for CM, but overall, would still involve a lot of travel.

I know it's a long way from home and visits to SEA won;t be easy, but could you not look at doing either north / south of Thailand this visit, then doing the one you didn't do on another future trip?

Trying to cover the lot in one short visit means you miss so much. For a north Thailand trip, you could also include Laos.

Give this some thought...............

How about , 3 n Bangkok, 4 Chiang Mai, then fly south and proceed directly to Khao Sok for 2 nights, then 4 nights at just one beach resort, and a final night in Bangkok.

Not worth it for just 2 n CM, also, Khao Sok is quite a distance from your beach choices, so just proceed there from the aorport (Phuket or Surat Thani) this will save time. Make sure you get a direct flight from C M , we use AirAsia.

4 nights in Bangkok, perhaps add a day trip to Ayutthaya from there, 3 nights in Chiang Mai, lose Khao Sok - a day trip whether from Phuket or Krabi it will be more than 3hrs one way to get there (trip sales people say 2hrs but it’s a lie) so you spend 7 hrs of that day on the road (been, done, never again). Lose Phuket - 5 nights in Krabi instead. Lots of day trips potential to beautiful islands from there and personally I don’t see any point in Patong. Have some time to rest and relax as well!

if you don't plan to return to Thailand, I would include chiang mai, and cut some time from BK
