What reason is there for violence in the city? We will be there for 4 days from Saturday.. spending my birthday there which is on Sunday before flying to Phuket..

The BangkokPost states there will be 3-400 armed forces personnel deployed in Bangkok NOT 15,000 soldiers. The remainder spread throughout the Kingdom.

Hello :

I just returned to states from a great vacations in BKK.

The city was totally in peaceful manner and I did not see

any soldier anywhere accept few in airport.

IMHO, I shall visit the BKK at any time and Not worry

about political internal problem and as I can see What

should the Visitors worry about when more troops presents?

this should be a Welcome and make Us more secure to

Come and Visit BKK.

The Bangkok Post is reporting that police and some military will be on alert for possible demonstrations relating to a court ruling on the dissolution of a couple of political parties. For those of you anticipating departing for Thailand soon, political demonstrations are not uncommon. According to the Bangkok Post the government is expecting demonstrations. If you happen to stumble across a demonsration, the wise thing to do is go someplace else. The likelihood of Bangkok being engulfed in violence is essentially nonexistent, but the likelihood of some problems around the demonstrations is higher.

Also, the Bangkok Post is saying 15000 police and military. The Thai military does perform more domestic security duties than the US, or many other, militaries. Other than avoiding demonstrations, this does not sound like any big deal.

hello :

I did read the news regarding the ruling of their political

verdit this week. You are correct to be concerned and

to be more cautious when travel around BKK. However,

I don't think the poeple will do any demontrations at any

tourist attraction in Sukhumvit or at any shopping malls.

I was in BKK for 9 days and just returned to States on

May 27,2007. The Thai people are very friendly to visitors

from foreign country. My take is just Go and be aware .

Enjoy your trip,

For those who are going to BKK and not sure about your safety, you may re-book your flight. The question here is, what would happen after the deployment of the 15K soldiers?

I am planning to visit BKK in July and I hope this violence would be over by that time.

Cheers!
