just to let anyone who,s thinking of visiting bankok
that 15,000 soldiers are guarding against possible violence
personally i would definately avoid the city
i dont think that the "bankok post "is a reliable source of "fact"
it is censored by the thai military "junta"
to rely on things written in a a news paper is daft --especially any thai news-paper
['m planning a trip to Bangkok at the end of June and am a little concerned. If you're looking for another source on the potential violence, look at

Hello :
The Thai 's politic is a on going working out issue within
their own system it may not end very soon. However, I don't
see that much concern safety issue for foreign visitors coming
BKK. The demonstrations if there is any in a peaceful manner
is a healthy democratic society and should not be in any ways
to be scrared of . Just like our own Immigrants demostrated
thru out States did not mean the USA is a un rest country and
out of control .
IMHO, the best bet are visiting all temples, week end market,
Siam Nirimit and shopping malls to ensure safety
Whether you believe the Bangkok Post or not, tomorrow IS a very important day for the Thai people and the various political factions. It is the report on the Electoral Fraud which, arguably, lead to the deposing of the previous democratically elected PM and the dissolution of his government resulting in the return of military rule.
The advice as usual for tourists is to stay away from government buildings, where rallies are likely to take place.
Incidentally it is not only the "junta controlled" Bangkok Post which is reporting on the tensions, the independent Nation has simnilar reports - see http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/05/30/headlines/headlines_30035562.php
Hello :
The majestic of King has address his people calm
and demonstrate a peaceful reaction to the ruling .
The Thai people are always listen and respect their
Monarch .
well all i can say is -- you pay your money< and you take your chances<
thailand is now ruled by the military - like burma --and as george bush says -- one of the axis of evil (north korea being the 3rd )
the guy who cleaned the country out (the chin-corporation)(thaksin shinawatra)-now resides in my country-- the uk (also his family
he is concidered a criminal in thailand
Hello :
This is no flame . However, if the guy is criminal . Why the
U.K. does not deport him back Thailand ?
We don't know all the pictures of Thai's politic then Don't
jump to the conclusions. Thailand is a beautiful country.
So andy53, are you saying Thailand is now an axis of evil ?
Burma and north Korea being the 3rd !
This will all be over in a few days as always. The troops are only there to keep the peace, and the King has spoken to keep the peace. And we know what that means !
The only thing evil in Thailand is the departure lounge at the airport
What is all this about! What violence in Bangkok? yes, today is "judgement day" on The Thai Rak Thai party (and the opposition democrats come to that) and there is the possibility of a little unrest but it is not all over the city and even then any tourists are extremely unlikely to encounter it. Scaremongering again! In the past coups have taken place with tourists in the city blissfully unaware until reading the paper the next day. The only tourists who would be affected are those silly enough to go to the planned demo sites.Let's see! Nothing to cancel your visit over.
Phil,
And the taxi drivers on samui!
