loads of pharmacy in bangkok. Just be aware of fake ones.

Well, there's a place that locals go there to buy for a cheaper price. It's in the area of Siriraj hospital..in case you want to buy a lot and observe a local market.

I would definitely buy meds in BKK. I think there are various chains such as Boots that sell meds. Ask concierge of your hotel for their recommendations.

I would save my money if I were you and my immune system (malaria pills are an anti biotic) and don't really work anyway. Just wear a good repellant that contains Deet. I have been through SE Asia numerous times from cities to farms and jungles and never had a problem because the deet works.

I entirely agree with the previous post. My parents and their children lived in Asia,in the jungle and beside swamps where mosquitoes breed. My mother laughed at the people who took malaria tablets as she felt the tablets didn't stop anyone getting malaria who might be susceptable. We just use a good repellant. I have never used Deet so cannot comment. I favour citronella based repellants.

which jungle and which swamp was that?

As a person who works for an NGO here in BKK where some of our programs on the Burmese border involve people (including children) in refugee camps where malaria and dengue is a major problem. these programs involve anti-malarials,as well as mosquito nets and reducing areas of water where mozzies breed. i can assure you nobody is laughing, and the results are quite good.

Ha, ha, ha!!!!

it's a personal choice. get as much info as possible from qualified people, certainly not forum members.

malaria tablets are cheaper here but there is a growing fake medicine market here too. even Boots have been caught out over the last year. i believe they stocked fake Neurofen, not deliberate of course. the packaging these days is excellent and you can't tell the difference between the real or the fake.

your health, your choice, your risk.

You may be able to get by with Doxycycline, it's real cheap. Probably 4 baht for local made stuff and up to 8 baht for imported from Europe doxy.

Check with your medical specialists if Doxy will do.

Always read the data sheet that comes with the product, also check the expiration dates of the meds!

Hi

Can i remind people that malaria is a very serious illness and that if you do catch it you have it for life or until it kills you!!

Each year 300-500 million clinical cases of the disease, ok 90 percent of them in Africa, cause between 1.5 million and 3 million deaths globally.

It is a personal choice.
