Best Hotels for two night stay

We are having a pre-cruise couple of nights in Bangkok and wish to make the most of our time there - site seeing, shopping, etc. We do like good quality hotels in good locations. Our cruise company normally selects the Grand Mercure. Can anyone offer an opinion of it? will it suit our needs? or if not, we would appreciate advice on any better alternatives.

Many thanks in anticipation.

The best hotel, in my opinion, is the Bangkok Marriott & Spa, but it's not in the main throng of things. Itis on the river and you have to get the hotel shuttle boat (every 15 mins) to Central Pier which will connect you to the Skytrain or another boat that will take you to different parts of Bangkok. Nowhere is very far away and taxis and put puts??? are very cheap. Check out the hotel web site or the many reviews on this forum.

Others may think differently as there are lots of first class hotels in Bangkok, but they don't have the ambiance that this hotel has.
