Bangkok where to stay

We are husband and wife in our early 50s, planning 6 months travel around Asia and finally to Australia. Can anyone recommend accommodation for 2 nights in Bangkok. It must be near transport, some bars, not too noisy, cheap - mid range. Cheers linda

well i would recon that you stay either around Silom or Sukhumvit....plenty of bars well some wat noisy but u dont really hear anything in your hotel room...also they are both on the skytrain route silom & sukhumvit line resp....so going up down bangkok (some parts of it) isnt difficult at all..(well as long as you dont mind the stairs or looking for the escalator...

Silom has some nice hotels like FuramXclusive silom(stayed here and loved it- its off the main strip so u nvr knw how long the party is goin on yet only 10-15 minutes of a walk from silom road, also 5 minutes walking from Chongnonsi Bts Station), then holiday inn Silom, heritage baan silom, silom serene...(varied price bracket)

Sukhumvit is crazy packed with options for accomondation try S15, Dream, LeFenix, Park Plaza, Bangkok Boutique hotel, Citadines...Most of these places are ranging from 1700 to 3500 Thb pn...GBP 30-70...if you could maybe narrow down on which area you want to stay in then if would be easier to choose a hotel...

Silom had Patpong night market (sleaze fest), Suanlum night bazar, Soi Convent (some amazing restaurants) and the silom road night street market...just that of the main drag it has more of a residential feel...

Sukhumvit has all of the above and just some more.. and more...plus they are both connected to sima by the skytrain for shopping...

hope i helped...
