Bangkok Situation - Latest

PLEASE - No discussion about insurance, travel warnings, where to stay etc. This thread is for information only.

Red Shirts say they will not leave their protest site at Rajprasong. The government say if they don't start leaving within 24 hours then water and electricity will be cut to that area. Extra military checkpoints have already been set up. Some suggestions that the reds may move out of Lumpini Park.

Hints from the authorities of action if the protests dont end by tonight. Say there will be 'inconvenience' for local businesses and residents. Nothing specific.

Starting at midnight tonight, all telephone, electricity, water servics will be cut to Rajprasong and surrounding area. Bus, BTS and boat services will not a stop at the protest area (or maybe stopped from going through or near). Government statement says food supplies will be stopped from entering. They also ay that homes, businesses and embassies in that are will be affected. The Swiss, Dutch, British embassies are all very close by, with US Embassy not too far.

BTS skytrain service may be disrupted from 6am tomorrow. The company does not yet know what stations etc may have to be closed and what services will operate.

Seems to me the Red leaders seem to want to make martyrs of themselves who nearly goad the authorities into a reaction no matter how drastic. I feel sorry for those living and working in the area who will have to suffer by the restrictions also and can just imagine their growing impatience.

Really do hope this can all be resolved peacefully and the people can be transported back to their villages safely without incident.

That's the point of civil disobedience!

The red shirts leaders say they will endure the cut in services.
