Having just been through the whole book, the stalls look very authentic and not tourist places at all. The author is Chawadee Nualkhair who has a blog at www.bangkokglutton.com. As she says, these are the top 50 in her opinion, but she doesn't expect everyone to agree with her. I still think it is a very useful little book for anyone who may be a bit scared of street food, as I know many tourists are.

Just landed in Bangkok and exhausted from 2 weeks of non-stop stop destinations in Switzerland, France, Italy, Dubai and now Bangkok. That's the good news but too exhausted right now to figure out where to eat RIGHT NOW. We want to try authentic street food stalls but just can't tell where to start. Please help. We like to consider ourselves fairly adventurous but have already had a minor bout of upset tummy (and we only landed last night :(). Our hotel is located near Robinson's dept store at end of Silom Rd. Any guidance would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Walk down Silom on the left side going away from the former Robinson's.

1. Go into Silom Complex (by the BTS station) to the basement and find Banana Leaf, great food but not street style.

2. Walk past Silom Complex, past the BTS station, and look for a large 7-11 on the corner, turn into that soi (Convent) and if you can find a place to sit, eat right there.

3. Between the Dusit and Silom Complex are a few hole-in-the-wall places with reasonably decent food.

With the thousands of food vendors lining Bangkok's streets, isn't it rather presumptuous to assume what is "the best".

Yes it is. The book is someone's opinion which others might take as gospel (like all those reviews in US newspapers). We all have our own favourites and my favourite cheap eatings website is no more :(

It might be handy for those that are a bit worried like 2BTrusted, but I guess it is just one persons opinion of what is best which the author does say at the beginning of the book.
