Certainly not walkable! Whether its worth visiting is open, it is for some, and not for others. Take the bts to Saphan Taksin, go down to the pier under the bridge and catch the Chao Phraya express boat to Phra Arthit pier. Note that the boat service ends a bit after 6pm.

As bbtony says, not walkable - probably ok for a beer, but food is terrible in KSR so eat elsewhere.

Or, if you really want to go to KSR, get either bus number 2, (red, 7 baht, non a/c) or 511, (orange, 15 baht, a/c), on the even number soi side of Sukhumvit Road. Just tell the clippy Khao San Road and she will tell you when to get off. The stop you need is immediately after Democracy Monument. It's very easy.

Excellent KSR well worth and best visited in the evening. As Alan says bus may be your best option in the evening and consider a taxi back if your returning later.

Some good restaurants and bars with live music and bands at many. Fun to people watch and tacky goods being sold on the many touristy market stalls.

If you have a big family group the price for a taxi with one person or 4 passengers is the same. When using meter taxis in Bangkok always have small bills and coins. Many old posts on how to use meter taxis in the city.
