How much time should I allot for a visit to the Grand Place?

Hello,

I will be arriving at BKK around 11 and I'll be staying in the Khao San Road area. Will I be able to fit in a visit to the Grand Palace before I meet my tour group at 6 pm? Is it realistic? Would I have time to see the Wat Pho too?

Hi,

At least 2.5 hours and do bear in mind that the Grand Palace closes at 15.30.

In my view, and this goes with most sights which holds some historical value and/or significance in society, it really depends on how much you enjoy detail and the interest you have in any given sight.

As Andy says above it is do-able in 2 to 3 hours but what will you remember of it in that short space of time?

My first time was a blur. Since then, whenever I can go back I do and I try to discover a little more.

If time is limited, take the camera with you, soak the atmosphere, imagine the effort and artistry which would have been required to complete such a structure back in 1782, which includes several buildings, halls and pavillions.

I find that reading a little about a place as vast as this, does help you narrow down what is of interest to you. Here is a link

Yes it is possible to see both The Grand Palace and Wat Pho in that time, although you may (or may not) decide you want to return to look at certain aspects in more detail.

Dont believe anyone approaching you saying the grand palace is closed. Setting you up to buy overpriced gems and suits

I'd go with 1-4 hours ... Variate the time based on how much detail and historical information you wish to take in. If you're just taking photos then 1hr should be enough. If you need to 'dress appropriately' and get a tour guide then you can be in there for the full 4hrs.
