The Sunreno - How to get around from here

Hi

We are thinking of staying at The Sunreno in Dec 2012. We like this as it is new and reviews have been good. We have not booked yet. We are a huge group of 8 adults and 5 children plus 2 toddlers.

We are thinking of visiting

- MBK shopping

- Fashion mall

- Grand Palace

- Wat Arun and Wat Pho

Any advice on how we should move around? We were initially thinking of taxis but read that the road where we will be is usually congested. Is it true?

Also, does anyone know if we could hop on to any river taxis easily (considering we are in a big group) and get to BTS Sapan Taksin which could take us to shopping places?

Is it difficult to move around from this location or staying somewhere more central would be better? Thnks

Seems its not far from Sathorn pier and the Saphan Taksin BTS station.

"Getting Around" in the Top Questions on the right has most of your questions answered.

There are very few shopping places along the river. MBK is at National Stadium BTS station while 4 large malls are at the stop before that, Siam BTS station.

Thanks very much. The Sunreno hotel told me that it will be too long to walk to the BTS station so we are a little worried about the location of the hotel. We are also considering staying along Sukhumvit Road instead - which seems to be a busier area with easy access to food and street shopping..

Close to the Saphan Taksin station are the excellent Chatrium Suites, and Centrpoint Silom, both well worth having a look at. If you want close access to shopping then look at the Siam area - two BTS lines meet at Siam stn; Siam Square full of small shops and cafes; MBK on one side, Siam Centre, Siam Discovery and Siam Paragon on another side, with Central World around the corner. Bangkok Art & Culture Centre, Ocean World and Jim Thompson house are all there too. There are lots of hotels including Siam@Siam, Pathumwan Princess, Novotel Siam, and more. Sukhhumvit is fine too and basically an extension of Siam.
