Is there anywhere I can get this map by weds 17th Oct as I'm travelling to Thailand and want to get it. Amazon delivery is 2-5 weeks. Would Heathrow airport do it?
I'd call around:
I ordered the map on Fri and got the map in todays post (Mon). This is probably no biggy for many, but considering I live on a very rural outpost in Australia with only two mail deliveries a week and the closest town an hour away, to me this is amazing.
I know this is no help to you being in Bristol, but search out a map specialist in your nearest big town or city and maybe you cen get one as fast as I got mine. I went through a specialist map shop in Melbourne, I'm sure someone there specialises in maps.
I usually buy mine (I lost the first one...I know an unforgivable sin, beat me with a stick if you must) at Asia Books once I arrive in Thai soil.
If you are curious and inquisitve like me then they are really worth it.
I for one did not like the map. I ordered it based on all the great TA comments and could not make heads or tails of the map with all the details. I think that it is probably useful for folks that have visited Bangkok often and are looking for the location of specific shops, restaurants, etc.
For a first timer to Bangkok such as myself - all the detail on the map was overwhelming and it was in itsy-bitsy print so that my old eyes could not easily see it. It came with a separate book that provided details on some of the places on the map - coded by the map grid. Good luck finding a specific place as there were lots of little dots in that map grid with names of places going every which a way. Drove me absolutely crazy. I purchased it from Amazon and returned it since I figure for almost $20 - I personally would have little use for it.
You won't get it at Heathrow, but I bought my last copy at the airport in Bangkok. (My first copy was lost at Chatuchak, the secong simply wore out!). You will find it in most bookshops in Bangkok but you could always email: firstname.lastname@example.org for a list of stockists.
Thanks peeps, no luck in Bristol so will try Bangkok
I have just checked and t's available at Kinokuniya Bookstore in Siam Paragon and costs Thb295.
Thanks for the info
I'm absolutely in love with my Nancy Chandler Bangkok map! I'm going to frame it when I get back :0) I ordered mine through Amazon and it took nearly two weeks! I've just recently gotten the Chiang Mai one as well, along with a whole lot of other guide books, paid extra for delivery, and it still took nearly two weeks. It was worth the wait though. Hope you manage to get yours :0)
What is the Nancy Chandler Map?
