men in shorts: denied temple entry?

Actually khaki cargo shorts that go down to knees.

Does wearing these prevent entry into any

temples or other places? Are men in shorts

common in this city? Thanks!

(obviously not where suit & ties required)

Some temples (Grand Palace for example) will not let you in wearing shorts.

Men in shorts is not uncommon in Bangkok particularly during the day, personaly I always wear lightweight chinos if I know I am going to ANY temple although some are more relaxed about it for me it is a respect thing Likewise in the evening partly as mosquito protection..

The Grand Palace complex is the only temple that you will be denied entry into. While you can wear shorts to other temples it doesn't mean you should. Take your cue from the local men, not many will be wearing shorts anywhere, shorts are for the beach.

Shorts are OK; shorts with loafers is not.

Wat Prakaew is one of the few places that will deny entry. But, do keep in mind that temples are places of worship, and should be visited with respect.

I would buy a pair of cargo trousers that have zips to turn them into shorts so at the Grand Palace you can wear them as long trousers then unzip them to become shorts when you leave.

Just to add, buy them in Bangkok as they are much cheaper than at home, I think we paid about 8/10US$ for a pair.

No worries shorts are fine - just wear nice shorts to temples. :) (grand palace is the exception - need trousers)

Shorts are not a problem and worn by lots of tourist/western men. Only exception being Grand Palace.
