Why stay near the airport?

Alot of flights arrive at that time so there will be lots of people, you wont be the only ones there. Just get a taxi and head to a hotel in the city.

As to which hotel, whats your budget, desired location, amenities etc?

If you intend staying in Bangkok a few days, easier to get a taxi straight into the city first night. It will save messing around the next day. The airport is quite busy at that time so no problems getting a taxi.
