I have been to bangkok about 6 years ago in March of 2008, and managed to see quite a bit of Bangkok and managed to spend a few months travelling most of Thailand, north, south, east and west. So I have a good idea of how the people are and what to expect.
I will be stopping off in Thailand for anywhere from 1-2 weeks (with the option of possible staying a couple extra weeks depending on finances). I have done all the regular touristy things on my first trip in 2008, saw all the major temples and sites to see and I want to know about things that the regular traveller may miss, and that is not in the travel books.
I want to know where there may be other emerging areas of the city that are great to stay, hostel wise, food and culture wise and still an area where you can meet some travellers. I want prefer to stay away from the Khao San backpacker ghetto which is why I'm posting.
Any suggestions of some different areas of Bangkok to explore and stay would be greatly appreciated.
