Use Google translator. You will get all the answers. Regarding making a call to US. Take a prepaid card of local Thai company as soon as you land in Bangkok. It makes your communication a lot easier.

If you have a true allergy to MSG, bring an EpiPen! MSG is a very common ingredient in Thailand.

The odds are great that you will be ingesting some, with or without a note.

CAT's "PhoneNet" card will give you US calling for 1 baht per minute. I have heard that they can now be purchased at 7/11s. There is also a CAT kiosk at Chamchuri Square, at the SamYan MRT stop
