I want to go to the beach (4 day trip from Bangkok)

Dear all,

during my next stay in Bangkok (10 days) I want to go to a beach destination for 4 or 5 nights.

The beaches in the South are familiar to me, but now I like to go to either Cha Am, Hua Hin or Pattaya, because I do not want to spent a lot of time travelling (and towards Hua Hin I could use a train, which I did not do before). What would you suggest - my main wish is to have nice water, good value for money and some options to walk around and find a nice place to eat.

Or: should I take a plane and go further South again? Or should I consider Koh Chang?

Every information is appreciated!

The train connection to Hua Hin is ok, I mean, it's a short trip. Please consider this Island as well. Koh Samet, at less than 3 hours South east from BKK. Lovely beaches and rather few tourists over there.

The next train station south of Hua Hin is Prachuap Khir Khan.

Great beach? Check this out...

And it's in a unique location inside the Wing 5 Thai Royal Air Force Base.

Rent a bicycle and away you go.

We stayed here for a week in March...

Read LancasterLad's review, I can vouch for it (lol)!

Hua Hin offers beach plus a busy night market and great restaurants with some laid back nightlife, if you like it even quieter Cha Am is much smaller and quieter but without so much to do and see in the evenings. If you should decide on Hua Hin I would suggest you consider a hotel a little out of town further along the beach where you can have much quieter beaches and still only a 5 min taxi or 15 minute walk along the beach into town. I can reccomend Casa del Mare which is a short way out of town and (at least when I stayed there last) has a beach where you rarely see another soul, I have posted a review on here if you are interested.

Hi,

As suggested by Dagwoodsmate Prachuap Khiri Khan. We stayed here recently:

It is spotlessly clean and close to some excellent seafood restaurants. There is a daily train which departs Bangkok at 08.05 and is scheduled to arrive there at 12.28.

Andy, the Sunbeach was our first choice, but it's a popular place and was full.

The Golden Beach is slightly north of town, but we had cronky old pushbikes which just about got us through every day.

Dagwoodsmate,

The Sunbeach is one of the best places we have ever stayed at in Thailand. I fully understand why it is so popular. Luckily, we didn't need pushbikes !

Cheers, Andy.

Hua Hin if you want town + beach + nature + culture, Koh samet if you want island relax style.

Lots of accommodations both in town and along the beaches

Going south from there you will find Bang Saphan - Bam Krut beach.

Mainly Thai getaway with hardly any western tourist. Big empty beaches and accom ranging from huts to luxury.
