Many hotels in Thailand consider children over 11 years old to be adults. Most rooms accommodate up to 2 adults, and paying for an extra bed won't help much since your younger child probably won't sleep comfortably in a single bed with a parent.

Novotel Siam Square has big rooms with two queen size beds. Their child policy is that two children under 16 stay free in the same room with 2 adults and also breakfast is included. The location is quite central and convenient for rail transport, but not in the busiest tourist nightlife area (lower Sukhumvit).

For things to do look at the Bangkok forum Top Questions visible on the full web site. One of them is "FAQ What To See & Do".

Checkout Eastin Grand Sathorn. We have booked there for our trip next year. It has a connecting passage to the Sky train.° It's one stop to the river and the sights there.. Check out the pool!

Have a look at www.sawadee.com for hotels in your budget. Just insure the hotel is near a BTS station.

Your hotel will be able to arrange day trips but its very easy to get around Bangkok yourselves.

You should visit the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, try some delicious, maybe some shopping Thai food and then maybe some shopping.

we have done a couple of overnighters in Bangkok before heading off into another direction and have stayed at Riverside Chatrium. Out of the main area but nice for us and when he have finished our daily sightseeing we head back to the hotel and can have a swim and shower before heading to the airport - they have a great pool.
