Sim cards

Hi. I know that on arrival to Bangkok, free sim cards are offered. Does anyone know how much credit is on them(for domestic calls of course) and once that runs out, how much it would cost to top up and how

Not sure if they come with any credit on them but can be topped up from about 50 THB at most 7 11 stores.

Hi,

Last time I was given a free Simcard it had 20 baht of credit. As Chris rightly points out they can be topped up at 7 11 and Family Mart stores which are easily found throughout Bangkok. It is also possible to buy them at the airport, close to arrivals area B.

Thank you. Do you know how many minutes you would get on these?

You can expect the local call rates to be about 1-2 baht/minute and often the headline prices omit the 7% VAT that is also charged. There are all kinds of promotions to keep people confused: cheaper rates to the operator's own subscribers, first minute 2.14 baht/subsequent minutes 0.54 baht, cheaper rates during non-peak times, etc.
