Protests in Bangkok

Any news on the ground about the on-going protests? We are due in BKK on Friday and are concerned about NYTime's article about protest escalations!

Get your news from Thailand, not New York.

The protests are currently only in one spot near the Democracy Monument, easily avoided.

We'll all have to wait until Friday to see.

That said, the "news" outlets are trying their darnedest to get this thing whipped up into a frenzy. Peaceful protests really don't boost up ratings! They keep warning of possible terrible outcomes. But, nothing nasty has manifested.

This question is being asked everyday now. Use the search facility.

I'm sure if it kicks off bad the people on TA who live in Bangkok will open a new tread to warn visitors.

Hi,

Sensationalism sells newspapers, fact don't. Facts are reliably sought from people on the ground.

Gippy, you mention that the protests are currently in one spot near the Democracy Monument, easily avoided. That is good.

I believe that the Emerald Buddha Temple is near the Democracy Monument? If so, is that area also to be avoided? I plan on visiting this temple so I thought I would ask on this forum.

Thank you.

Evelyn2109, The Emerald Buddha is inside the grounds of the Grand Palace. You have noting to worry about in visiting GP.

I pass the demonstration site every day, and the protest is peaceful and good natured. If you go down there you could take a few pictures with the crowd and watch the giant screens while having something to eat!
