Spending money in Bangkok for 7 nights?

Im going to Bangkok with my boyfriend for 7 nights in January/February and after reading the other forums about how much spending money to take we're still unsure how much we will need. Hotels and flights are already paid for so the money will be purely for food and A LOT of shopping. We also plan on possible sight-seeing/tours. How much money should each of us budget so that there is no need to worry about running out of money?

I would say 1000 Baht each for 3 meals and some drinks during the day will be sufficient. Shopping costs of course depend very much on your likes. Go to MBK mall and JJ market (market only during weekends) for the best bargains. If you however want to go clubbing or make expensive daytrips, it can easily add up.

Everyone spends money differently. Some really squeeze the pennies and some throw away big tips and eat and drink at the fancier places. No one answer for everyone. (When you do a forum search you will probably get a thousand posts on this same question.)

Backpackers get by with 1000 baht a day which also includes their hostel and food. If 3000 baht a day is no problem then use that as a guide. At least have available the same amount of money you pay for your hotel room! In a 500 baht a day hotel room - have 500 baht available. In a 5000 baht a day hotel room have 5000 baht available!

You can have a debit card available if you need more money. Just hit up an ATM for extra cash.

Have fun.

Hi Lahnij,

Bring as much money as you can afford to spend and spend no more than what you have brought.

As a guide, my wife & I will allocate about A$150 per day to pay for our indulgence in Thai cuisine, street food, shopping and daily massages (Apart from airfares & accommodation cost).

AUD 150 per person is a quite adequate daily budget. However, a wine dinner in one of the roof top restaurants will easily exceed that amount. Likewise if you shop in the international brand name shops in Siam Paragon or Gaysorn Plaza.

We're bring $300 AUD per day budget. We are a family of 4, 2 kids ,2 adults. Food we tend to eat a lot of subway and dinners we do shopping centre eating halls and their meals can be about 35 baht for 1 plate, and we order about 8 plates due to small servings.

We all have massages every day and go on about 2 tours per trip.

Most nights a 2nd dinner of seafood is also bought.

Most of it goes on shopping and we do not do high end shopping. We shop at Tesco Lotus, Uni Qlo and markets. If there's any money left then we just take it home.
