BKK:State of emergency, does hotels give accomm discounts?

Just checking since we will now book online thru booking engine or straight to online booking facility of the hotel itself.

Phone or email them. Why should this be hard?

Hotels in or very near protest area give discounts mainly to Thais.

Hi,

I have just had a quick look on the web and there doesn't appear to be any reductions, not yet anyway.

Most hotels raise prices when things are slack in Thailand.

Email or ring the hotel to be certain.

My hotel's price dropped 600 THB per night. I'm going in February (after the elections.) I cancelled the reservation and rebooked it. I'm using the popular hotel booking websites like agoda and booking

It looks like there's a lot more availability now, and you can get low prices at the same time as free cancellation up until the night before. When I booked a month ago, the low prices were for non-refundable rooms -- now I can get the low price but it's also refundable (which is good just in case the trip gets cancelled.)

Sorry -- that was a pretty long-winded answer to basically say:

Prices look really good now. I'd book something now that's cancellable, so that if prices drop further or you change your mind, you can cancel. But at least you lock in a good price.

Some Bangkok hotels are offering discounts to resident expats and Thai nationals, to accommodate those having trouble getting to work, and/or those staying in town to attend the protests.

There were reports of a 'price war' among Bangkok hotels but after the disturbances were over. Your guess is as good as anyone's as to when that will be!
