Bangkok safety near MBK mall

Could someone advise me what does BKK retail area looks like these days? We are planning to stay near MBK mall to do some shopping for 1 night and will be arriving to the airport 4pm ish 28th March so by the time we get to central BKK it will be at least 7pm and I heard it's still not advised to go on the streets at night. The hotel we would stay is Bangkok Mercure Siam and ive read on the reviews that the blockage is actually just there. Shall I rebook somewhere else or completely avoid BKK?thanks a lot

You must have gotten hold of some old articles. For all intents and purposes, the protest is confined to Lumpini Park, nowhere near your hotel.

The Pathumwan protest site was packed up 2.5 weeks ago so all is normal. Your main concern is pick pockets in MBK and don't give money to the people begging around there - especially those with children, mainly from Cambodia. IT is all a 'mafia' based scam and the children are being exploited.

There are still currently 4 protests sites, Lumpini being the main inner city one. Follow advice and give them all miss.

You will have no problems. Protest site in that area has closed/moved.
