Half hour at Wat Arun

Hi there

I am just in the process of booking a tour of the Khlongs and Wat Arun. The tour is allowing half an hour for the visit to Wat Arun. Is this enough time. We have been to BKK before but never got around to doing the canals and Temple of dawn. Really looking forward to it and just don't want to feel rushed.

Many thanks in advance

Jo

Hi

From experience is think is enough. I would suggest once you reach the temple climb up to the top ( mid way for me) the view are amazing up there. I didn't really like the temple grounds.

Are the stairs easy to climb for older people around 70? Thinking of going with the family. Thank you.

@ Wsea3h I think is depends on how fit you're. I'm not sure how many steps of the stairs. I found the stairs are very steep even for me ( 40 ish) but I'm scares of high so it didn't help :). I would give a go just to have a feels of it. You don't have to go to the top.

why the tour, just set the itinerary, from theirs as a guide, and do it yourself. not a tour fan myself, as they tend to stay too long at some places, money maker for the wats, and not long enough at others, like wat arun, which was interesting, and we were there for a bit more than one half hour. but live here, and watted out, though did want to see what all the fuss was about. if new and checking it out, may have wanted more than 1/2 hour.

Agree with the above. Why let someone else dictate how long you can spend at a place? So easy to do it all yourself. Check out Fodor's website for some really good Bangkok walking tour itineraries and do it yourself.

Also for Wat Arun, many people visit this temple then head straight back over the river, but if you head out of the back gate and turn left & walk down the river towards the Peninsula, you escape the crowds & see some really fascinating areas of the city.

Hi, we spent more than an hour at Wat Arun but we did climb to the top, I suppose if you just want to look around and take some photos then half an hour would be enough but I personally would allow more time.

Thank you all for your replies. I have booked tour now and the Wat Arun visit has been extended to 45 mins :-)

Last time we visited BKK we were constantly on the go, jet lagged and very tired. This time we are going to spend most of our time relaxing in the hotel pool, shopping and eating down Khao San and Rambuttri and taking the easy option of a tour where someone else does it for you. Its going to be a very lazy 2/3 days before we head to Phuket and Singapore - cant wait.

Thanks again everyone x

the steps are quite steep, esp the ones at the start but are easier if you take the slightly sideways. I would want more than 30 minutes personally.
