Chiang Mai Hotel booking sites. Which one do you use?

Been to Chiang Mai many times and we are heading back again in October. Wanting to stay somewhere new and I am just starting to do the hotel research.

Have been having a look at Hotels Combined and noticed some very cheap prices for places like Bodhi Serene and Tamarind Village - prices that seem a little too good to be true. The following sites seem to have the best prices for many of the hotels I have looked at:

Olotels

Otel

Skoosh

Venere

Laterooms

Would love to know if anyone has booked through any of these sites (preferably for Thailand trips). Also would love to hear suggestions for other good booking sites.

I usually use Agoda as I have found some good prices and like to pay with paypal. I have also used sawadee and wotif.

Hi,

I use agoda, booking.com and sawasdee-hotels for bookings in Thailand, when I don't book direct. I also use a site called trivago to get an idea of the prices across the brokers. Worth noting that some sites don't include tax and service charge in their 'head up' rate so you need to do a bit of digging to compare like with like sometimes.

Cheers

I've used most of those websites and they're all very reliable you might also want to check out Asiatravel as they sometimes have special deals.

I like http://www.asiarooms.com/ and http://www.sawadee.com/ as well as checking with the hotel direct.

I'm not sure about Agoda. They often have low looking base prices but don't include taxes and other fees so it can make comparing prices harder.

I use Booking.com because you don't pay in advance, there is no hidden cost (latestays is quite bad for that), and they have a good description of the rooms. But I always double check with tripadvisor especially for the photos taken by guests, it tells a lot.

DarklyDreaming, listen very carefully, I will tell you only once.

I'll use Agoda (or a similar booking site) to check, reviews, location and to offer me an idea of the going price.

When I find something I like, I'll do a search for the hotels own website. Once I find that the next step is comparing the rate they have on offer.

Now an email is sent to the front desk of that hotel. Just as I wouldn't accept the first price a stall holder offered me, I'll use this same logic in the ensuing correspondence.

You'll be surprised at how much fun this can be.

Of cause in low season the hotel can be a little more, flexible than in peak and will often have rooms unoccupied.

Have fun

Directrooms.com is always worth a look. It is like hotelscombined but compares a wider range of wholesalers. The price given by these wholesalers includes taxes so you can compare apples to apples.

It's worth noting agoda.com now includes fees and taxes in the first price you see.

I always check sawadee.com as well. Sawadee often have free night deals.

I've used a number of those you mention above in Malaysia and Thailand and not had problems.

I always check the hotels own price as well.

Hi Caroline,

I think agoda only displays the final price upfront in countries that have made it illegal to not do that, ie. Australia, in many others it's still as before.

Oh right. I noticed it just started happening a couple of months ago.

Agoda use to add it on at the end but now the full price is on the first screen.

It's funny though because a lot of other wholesalers I access from Australia don't include taxes until the end.
