Looking for a cute clean place,to use as a base stay for our travels, with nice soft beds, & hopefully a bathtub, & air conditioning

What is your budget and when are you going to be there.

Top Garden or Funky Monkey are inexpensive and get great reviews - neither have pools if that is important to you but are well located just outside the Nth East Cnr of the old city.

Tanita House over on the riverside is also a good choice.

Yes, a rough budget and time of year would help to recommend more.

I'd add Early Bird to Caroline's recommendations. They are in a brilliant location in the old city - and the breakfasts are the best we've had.

They are at http://www.earlybirdhouse.com/, but I think also on Agoda. We booked directly and their rates are very good.

You may have a problem with the soft beds! Without staying in a Western chain hotel at fair expense, it's unlikely you'll find one. If you do, please post and let us all know where you stayed!

Another couple of places to add are Awanahouse in the old city (pool) as well as Baan Orapin Bed and Breakfast (comfy beds and pool) and Rimping Village (pool), which are riverside.
