Your best bet if you want to do diving is to head over to Koh Tao for a couple of days. If you choose a dive school from KS you will more than likely be travelling over there anyway so you may as well stay on KT to get a better experience.

If you check out the Koh Tao forum you will find a fair bit if information about dive schools etc.

Hi.

When i am over i dive with The Dive Academy, very good and run by a British couple. i am over in April/May and will be diving with them again. as the previous poster said Koh Tao is the best dive area and the Dive Acad go there most days.

For now several year, I am diving with the top TA rated diving centre, http://www.100degreeseast.com/. Top service, top safety, top people... And they own their boat (something seldom among the diving clubs in Koh Samui but a critical factor since it allows them to offer the service they offer). Now most of the good diving spots are around Koh Tao. It means any centre will take you there (which means 60 to 75 minutes by speedboat one way). So it is costly to dive from Koh Samui. So if you go there mostly for scuba diving, do consider JustAllie suggestion above. Now if you want to also have night life & co, then Koh Samui is what you are looking for. But expect about USD 150 to 200 per diving day per person (2 dives, gear and lunch included).
