Taxi or rental car? Staying at the Conrad

Can anyone inform us on the cost of pick-up from airport to the Conrad Resort?

How is exploring the island best done - by rental car, or by hired taxi (and at which cost per day)?

Or is it a better idea to just rent a car at the airport, and keep it for the week?

Thanks for any input.

Rent a car for the week. The Conrad is the most secluded hotel on the island. Its at least a 30 minute drive from both Bhoput and Chaweng, which are the main tourist areas (probably more if you don't know the island very well). A hotel guest said that one return trip to Chaweng using the Conrad's taxis cost 50USD. Unless you plan to stay in the hotel all the time it would be much more cost effective to hire a car for the week rather than using taxis, which aren't cheap anywhere on samui and the Conrad's own taxis will charge a premium price on top of the normal taxi fare.

Im with twiggyrex on this. Car hire is your best option . May I suggest once land at Samui airport grabs a car hire form the airport and drive yourselves to the Conrad. The car are the choices of hertz, Avis, budget etc. they also do drop off for you at the hotel as well.

If you want to get taxi from the airport to Conrad there's taxi ticket counter out the front of arrival hall.

Good luck

Transfer by private car from the airport to the Conrad is THB 1000 or slightly more.

Well, first time to Samui and driving on your own to the Conrad after a longhaul flight is a nice challenge.

I suggest you go to the Public Transfer Desk at the airport, book your private car transfer and tell the staff that you would later like to hire a driver for a full day tour of the island.

Usually they have a relative that is moonlighting at reasonable costs.

Once you get a bit of a feel for the island you still can decide if you want to rent a car.
