Is there somewhere similar to Hua Hin in Koh Samui?

Been to Bangkok and Hua Hin twice and absolutely love both. Want to go to Thailand for our honeymoon and have been looking at Koh Samui. ( Phuket and Krabi are too wet when we want to go.) Been doing research but cant find the answers. We want somewhere similar to Hua Hin - nice restaurants, massages, a few good bars etc but want somewhere that is very Thai and not loads of clubs etc. Is there somewhere like this in Koh Samui? Any suggestions for good 5 star hotels that are within walking distance of restaurants etc. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Everywhere's different and I don't know if you'll like Samui, we love it but we like a nice beach with a good selection of restaurants that's busy, South chaweng has definitely the best beach in Samui, it's quiter than Central Chaweng but still busy so if you prefer somewhere quieter you may need to compromise on the beach if you're willing to do this there are a lot of quiter areas in Samui, like Bophut, the Zazen would be great for a honeymoon there.

Hi

Hua Hin is very, very different to the island of Samui. There is only one small area with bars / clubs in Samui [the northern bit of Chawang] and that area is actually much, much smaller than the area in Hua Hin where, say El Murphys Bar is - which is a pretty lively area..

If you are hire a car you will find much of the 'real thailand' in Samui, it will just be very different to Hua Hin. We normally see temples and beaches that others just never see, and we are often the only western faces!

For example, Centara Grand Chawang and Hua Hin are very similar in locaiton and design. Chawang CG acutally has a much nicer beach. Both have a great choice of bars and restaurant around the area.

You can't go to Samui expecting Hua Hin, they are just not the same!

Hi

Agree with TM. If You are really want to go to koh Samui I think the best you just have to go with open mind and not expecting anything. I think south chaweng and cheongmon might suit you for quietness but easy excess to restaurants and bars.

Koh Samui are very small in the area and you take you a couple of hours to drive around the island. If you have been to Hua Hin I would give koh Samui a go then you will know next time.

Good luck

Koh Samui is very different to Hua Hin and not very Thai in the most part, but there are still some very beautiful parts to be found. Choeng Mon and Bophut are areas that you could consider.

I think Choeng Mon would suit you. Sala Samui is 5 star and seems to get great reviews. Another option would be Tongsai Bay which is close to Choeng Mon and has a real Thai feel. Twiggyrex is the resident expert on TB so hopefully she'll post here.

Bophut has lots of lovely restaurants and some great resorts but the beach isn't as good as some areas on Samui. If this doesn't fuss you and you tend to stick by the pool is might be a good option.

Sory didn't see the bits of 5*.

Agree with Allie Sala Samui and tongsai bay might suit you both on cheongmon beach but opposite bay. Alternatively bophut has plentynof 5* resort to choose from and within walking distance to bars and restuarants ( fihserman village)

Hansar, Zazen etc.

The poppies beach reosrt in south chaweng beach ( some says is not truly 5*) but might worth to check them out too. The resort built and decorated in Thai style bungalow, small impact boutique type resort. Still away from crazyness but within walking distance to amenities.
