Compulsory gala dinners

We are planning to stay over New Years with two young kids (both under 3)... Any tips on getting out of paying for the gala dinners the resorts impose on you?

I am sure they are a great night but with two little kids we wouldn't be able to attend. Plus one place says they charge kids under 11 AUD97 each which is just ridiculous...

Any help would be appreciated...

Hi

If your kids under 4 years of age they should be free of charge but that depends on hotel policy. Before you book the hotel did you tick the box that you will acknowledge the terms and conditions? If you do then you have no other choice.

Change the hotel if you can. There are some hotels does not do gala dinners perhaps book to stay there for a couple of nights then move to the one in you mind. I know of people doing this way to get out of mandatory galas dinner.

Hi

You are very unlikely to 'get out' of paying unless you go to a hotel that does not have a gala.

You can not get out of it, that being why it's called a compulsory gala dinner charge.

As Pea said you're best option is to look for a hotel not imposing it and book a night or two there over new years thus avoiding it.

Well it does pay to ask... I emailed the resort direct in regards to the gala dinner only for them to advise me that they were making the dinner a non-compulsory event this year

Congratulations on finding a non compulsory gala dinner hotel, it's rare indeed and you've done well to save some decent dollars.

Perhaps you could share which hotel has come to it's senses and is not making NYE dinner compulsory?

We stayed at the Imperial Boathouse in Koh Samui... Both the NYE and Christmas Eve gala dinners were made non-compulsory

Loved it! Would highly recommend it!
