Flights from BKK

Just a quick one.

Is it cheaper/more expensive to book flights to and from Ko Samui at the airport on the day.

I'm heading over in a couple of weeks and don't know whether to pre-book in case the flights are delayed.

It is generally best to book in advance to make sure you can get on the flight that you want. The flights don't get cheaper unfortunately and there are never really any discounted fares to Samui anyway. The first and last flights of the days may be a bit cheaper but that is about the extent of it.

Having said that, June isn't peak travel time so you could just book when you land but it won't be any cheaper. You would need to be prepared for a wait if the next flight is full.

Even in June Bangkok Air flights are usually fully booked all day.

Two years ago in June two of our friends booked on the same flight as us were bumped due to over booking and had to get a bus to Pattaya and fly from there to get to Samui that day.

Might be different in current situation, check availability on the Bangkok Air site.

From Aus, we've found booking online ahead of time is cheaper than the travel agency can offer.

We tend to book the flights well in advance to 1] avoid dispointment, and 2] try to get the early booker web deal prices.

I've never heard of flights being cheaper when buying on the day, rather than weeks/months in advance.

Just make sure you allow sufficient time to connect and should be no worries. If you are on a long-haul always the possibility of a delay but as long as you allow a good few hours you should be ok.

Certainly the cheapest fare seats sell first.
