Changes to Taxi's on Samui?

It would appear there are some changes to the unmetered, unregulated taxi's on Samui.

I'd be very interested to hear from anyone on the island at the moment who has caught a taxi in the last few days. Are they using meters, are they slugging you with 100 baht (total) surcharges or is still business as always? By this I mean not using meters and a continual ripping off tourists at every opportunity

hi matt

not sure whats going on but my guests still been charged normal [rip off rate]

i have seen tho some taxis with signage indicating 50 baht fe plus extra 50 baht [total 100]

then on the metre

will be great if this is encouraged for all taxis as it would mean a 50% decrease in most taxis fares

and maybe tourists would use them once again

cheers

dean
