Cheap internet shops available all over Pattaya. You can also send an email for peanuts.

I keep an unlocked 'phone (pay as you go) and get a simcard in pattaya. I find it really cheap to make 'phone calls.

Hi, I have vibe r(app) on my smart phone and can call and text anyone of my contacts as long as they have viber as well for free. You will need the internet as well. I also get a Thai AIS sim card with data and a few dollars for calls. But 95% of the tie I use viber, youcan send pics as well.

If you have a smart phone then you have many options.

You can use many apps but the most popular are

Or even iMessage (iPhone 2 iPhone)

And also FaceTime (iPhone feature)

The person must also have the same app.

All these require an internet connection so you can find wifi at your hotel or certain restaurants if you are dining.

There is also a service at melb airport which I have used before and was amazingly amazing.

I purchased a $20 simcard from melbourne airport and It gave me unlimited internet for a week and certain amount of calls. And after 1 week if I had credit I would then get unlimited internet for another week.

And you can easily top up at a 7/11 store.

Do some research and it all depends how much you want to use your phone.

Good luck and enjoy your holiday (:
