Ummm, probably the same way you do at home. Wait till theres no traffic and cross, or do it at the lights, and cross when it says to cross. Just be sure to look both ways before starting your crossing, and then again at the midway point
Just remember they drive on the other side of the road. So look both ways and keep looking both ways.
Do not run. Yes, it seem counterintuitive but not running allows the guys on bikes to avoid you.
Yes, definitely look both ways!
Not very gallant but if there are locals crossing put them between oncoming traffic and you.
Haha Infidelal...
It's no big deal crossing the road. There are crossings and lights.
I echo the look both ways (in the opposite direction to what you normal would in the US)!
>>Not very gallant but if there are locals crossing put them between oncoming traffic and you.<<
Lol, I do this all the time! Seriously though, walk at a steady pace and don't run. Observe how the locals do it and copy!
Try and cross at the same time as the locals, I wait until my wife say "go now" then we all cross together I wouldn't put to much faith in lights and crossing either. The motorbikes are more of a problem that buses and cars.
Have the people saying that there are crossings actually been to Thailand? Sure there are some crossings but the Thai drivers rarely stop at them. Even the light controlled crossings can be dangerous as the innocent pedestrian thinks they have priority but the Thai driver thinks otherwise.
The answer to the original question is .....do so very carefully and sure, look both ways even in a street that is supposed to be one way.
Hi
Use the elevated cross walk over the street if they have one. It is worth walking a far distance to cross safely
even slow side streets need caution at all times. agree Motorcyclist are much more a threat than cars. they will come at you against traffic and many times on the sidewalk also.
you will see Thai's cross halfway if really busy and stand in middle of road and wait until the other lane clears
Edited: 7 years agoLook straight ahead, step off the kerb, wave hand up and down with arm by your hip and walk to the other side. Problem solved!
This is how traffic lights work in Pattaya:
