One day in Phuket

We have one day in Phuket at the end of February as part of a cruise. We are planning to spend most of the day on the beach but want to know if its easy to take a taxi to the beach and how much we should expect the taxi to cost. Which beaches would people recommend? We don't want to go too far but would like somewhere with a lovely beach, not too busy with beds and umbrellas and a bar/ beach restaurant.

Is it worth looking at other sights, markets etc?

All advice would be much appreciated.

Might be helpful if you know where in Phuket you will be landing from your cruise?

Hi Joan

If you are cruising on Royal Caribbean you will almost certainly moor off Patong beach. If so you are on the "main" beach. Sunbeds and umbrellas right there. In addition the stalls and shopping centre (Junceylon) within easy walking distance. Money changers also available right there,no passport required, just show your ships access cards

We are travelling with Celebrity and I guess that we will also moor off Patong Beach.

Can we get a taxi to a quieter beach and if so where do you suggest?

Thanks again

Any other advice please

Linda n if you land off Patong it’s not too far off shore and tenders don’t take long to get you ashore plenty of taxis about for onward trips as I think I replied to you on other post check out PPKK tour services on TA

Hi there,

That time of the year you the ship should be anchored in Patong beach, if so you can walk from the pier where the Tenders let you off and walk a couple of minutes to the south end of Patong, its always very quiet there we have stayed at the Bliss a couple of times and walk straight across the road to Patong south beach, its clean and quiet but only 7 minutes walk to the main beach area.

If you walk along the beach road heading north till you get to the holiday Inn (5 Minutes ) turn right there and walk till the next T intersection (3 Minutes) then you are at Patong O Top Markets, over 100 little craft and clothing stalls as well as Bars and food outlets.

If you dock at the deep sea port, usually later in the year its miles from anywhere and the Phuket Taxi Mafia run the taxis as ridiculous prices.

Cheers, Pete

You can also get a private driver or Tuk Tuk to another beach Kata or Karon, but south Patong is a safer beach , it will cost around 400 Baht one way.
