Hi everyone ,
A bit about our trip to phuket.....
We flew virgin from Sydney to Perth , the flight left 25 minutes late but arrived at Perth on time . seats where pretty comfy & roomy & the captain was a scream with making jokes along the way ...a good flight all in all .
we rented a little getz from avis , good roomy & fuel efficient car , but I think they forgot to clean it out b4 we got it ...lol , we drove down to Fremantle to the markets which took 30 minutes , but I found this place over rated , over priced and over crowded , seems like this is the place everyone goes to on a Sunday ! we then drove around the city to have a look and then up past the airport ...we found a little place called Guildford , which was very pretty and a really cheap Chinese restaurant 2x entrees, meals and fried rice and drinks $37 , what a bargain !
then we drove back to the airport for our tiger flight to Singapore ( we had originally planned to stay here for a couple of nights but decided to have more time in Thailand instead ) . flight left on time and arrived on time , seating spaces are a bit tight and the price of drinks including water are a bit rich , otherwise the flight was fine .It was easy going through customs at this time of the morning (3am) and had a long 5 hr wait for our flight to phuket . I found a little shop call the 3 for $10 shop , got a few souvenirs in there that where of good quality . whish I could have gotten more !
Time finally arrived for our flight , again by tiger which left early and arrived early , seating was a bit roomier on this plane .we arrived early morning at phuket and brought a 1lt bottle of Johnny walker 550bht , cheaper than we later saw in any other shop, wished i had brought some smokes here as well ...oh well i will know next time . getting through customs was a breeze .
Sam was waiting for us at the airport to take us to our hotel , what a great bloke . he stopped for us to change some money and helped with our check in then off he went . Our room wasn't ready , which I expected as we were there at 9.30 in the morning , but they gladly gave us a different room so that we could have a long awaited shower in . We stayed at the " lifestyle baipho hotel " a short stroll from bangla road but in a back ally ,a very quiet hotel . we had our shower then headed off to have a bite to eat & then a wander through some markets ...we got our boys some billabong jumpers for 460bht ea ,t-shirts for 155bht ea and some thongs for 133bht ea .
we then got some beer and water to take back to our room which was finally ready , they had already taken our luggage into the new room then escorted us to the new room ......what a WOW factor when I walked in .....my mouth hit the floor at how beautiful and how huge the bed was. we stayed in a Jacuzzi room with king bed , the bed was that wide ....hubby is 6'4 and he layed across it with his head on his arm and elbow elevated past his head , feet on the bed and still had bed to spare, either side of him , that's how wide it was ...... there were wooden floor boards and a flat screen TV and loads of room and cupboard space . then in the bathroom for the Jacuzzi , room enough for 2 was another flatscreen TV up on the wall to watch while in the Jacuzzi . on the other side of the room was yet another bathroom with shower toilet and basin and a dressing room . the room was stylishly fitted out with a variety of paintings and painted wooden sliding shutters on the inside of the windows to keep out light and noise ........ this was the best hotel I have ever stayed at , and would highly recommend this room to anyone , much much cheaper than most of the hotels I looked at in phuket .
I had a sleep and hubby went shopping , we then got ready to go to fantasea with Sam.
the show was fantastic , I was totally mesmerized by all of it . as for the rest of the place , well if your into shopping then its great , games and overpriced shops everywhere , but the way the place is decorated it really good & the tiger sanctuary was also good .
beware though , the price has gone up to 1500bht , a bit dearer than what we were first quoted ..... Sam was waiting for us again out the front to take us back to the hotel .
the next day was just a rest day , so we had breaky (included in the hotel price ) then off on a wander to have a look around , we went to the beach which was packed , but bangla rd was deserted , we found some more bbong bargains , a bag & swimmers for $15 and socks 3 pairs for 100bht . it was pretty hot so we went into a department store and picked up the granddaughters some clothes for $1 each , what a bargain !
back to the room for a spa and a snooze, then afterwards we went for a walk down bangla rd to see what all the fuss was about .we had a wonderful dinner at rundetarn restaurant a 3 coarse meal cost 975bht and the food was fantastic . walking back up bangla rd and the ladyboys kept asking me if I wanted to see the shows , not once did they ask hubby .....I found this a little intimidating , they should be asking him not me , I kept thinking to myself .....lol so I just kept declining their offers hahahahahaha...we ended up in a bar which was playing some great music , so we ended up staying there until midnight ..lol
we went to change money and get a spare battery for my camera but only to find shops don't open until 10 am , so we just hung around until the money changer opened and changed more money then back to the hotel to await our pick up for our day trip arranged by Sam. we didn't want to be spending the whole day on a boat or on an island on the beach as we are not real beachy people , so Sam told us of this day trip , we went to the monkey caves and saw the lying Buddha , then onto some caves for lunch & boat and raft rides through the actual caves ...well weren't we a sight trying to stay stable on these rafts , but at least we weren't the only ones having trouble getting onto them ....lol afterwards we went on a longtail boat ride to James bond island , not much there but was ok for a few photos , then onto the Muslim fishing village . here they had tiny monkeys in nappies ready to have a photo with you , at a cost of coarse ! found the people pretty rude here . it was back to the bus then back to the hotel ..... all in all a good day had !
after a shower we went for dinner at the balcony restaurant in bangla rd , not the nicest meal I must say , cheaper than the 1st night at 720bht , but nowhere near as nice .
we done a bit more shopping , finding the boys some DC shoes , so we brought 3 pairs of those , some more t-shirts and jumpers .....the bags where filling up rather quickly now ...lol
we packed our bags , sorted things to post and things to keep with us ....lol then had some much needed sleep .
Sam picked us up nice and early for our tour around phuket , we saw some wonderful view points with gorgeous beaches and water views .Sam had the boot filled with beer and softdrink for us both , but there was no way I could ever drink that much soft drink in 1 day , even if I was adding the scotch to it ....lol
we then went to the orang-a-tang place and fed the elephants and patted the orang-a-tangs , no rides for us .
he gladly took us to the post office and helped us to ship all our items back home , we had 8kg and used economy air which cost us $54 to post back home and where told 3 - 4 weeks ...... but when we got home it had only taken 1 week .
we had Kentucky for lunch , but beware ....hot and spicy is more than hot and spicy ....it blows your head off .....I couldn't eat it , it was that hot !
We then went onto the cashew factory , where we found them a little pushy , but had some nice varieties of the nuts .... a word of warning though , they are cheaper at the airport than the factory .
After driving through some beautiful countryside , we bid farewell to Sam & phuket after he dropped us off at the airport for our flight to Bangkok with airasia , which are very strict with luggage limits.
many thanks to Sam for a wonderful few days , thank you for the good English , the caring nature that you have and for the knowledge of your country that you gladly passed onto us .
I didn't think I would like phuket all that much , but I loved it and wished I would have had a bit longer to stay there , perhaps next time !
