Buying books in Kata Beach or Patong

Hi - wanting to travel light but would be keen to buy some good books when there to rleax with. Are there much in the way of bookshops with english language books - topsellers etc? Or not really?

How about Bangkok airport when we're waiting for flight to Phuket... cheaper books in there than NZ prices maybe?

I was there last April (and going again in a few days) and when we were there last there was a good book store on Banga Rd (right hand side going away from beach) and also another on at Jungceylon Centre at the end of Bangla Rd.

I was happy with the selection and price. Lots of english language etc,

Good luck.

Hi zorronewzealand

If you are interested there is a second hand bookshop in the otop markets and another one in the back st about 300mtrs from the Holiday Inn on the same side.

They also sell some new books and they are very cheap, we buy our books there and they will buy them back from you when you are finished at about half what you pay.

Hope this helps

English language books in Thailand are not cheap, the prices are about the same if not more expensive.

In Kata there is an Asia Books bookstore on the north end close to the Starbucks. (yes Kata has a Starbucks, sad but true).

They have a decent selection of best sellers etc.

Also in Kata there is a very large 2nd hand bookstore.

Opposite the club med, next to a 7-11. (sad but true there are about 7 7-11's in Kata )

Even 2nd hand book prices are not cheap. Probably better to bring them from NZ and leave them here.

When I go back home that is one thing I always bring back.

Take your own - put it in your hand luggage they don't take up much room. Patong over priced for English language books and not a great selection. There is a second hand book store but the books look a little worse for wear.

There is also a good second hand book shop opposite the Irish Pub in Jungceylon, also another one on Rat-U-Thit Rd heading north, we have just recently bought quite a few there, all in good condition and the dearest was 350baht.
