Phuket beach huts

We (my husband, myself and 3 children) are looking for a couple of cheap beach huts (back to basics is fine) to stay about 4 nights around Phuket at the end of July. Don't really want to be near Patong. Would love to sail around Phang Nga so would like to be close to a departure point for a not too touristy cruise. Seems like I'm asking for a lot, but I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks Gilly

There are some very basic beach huts at Mai Khao beach, north west of the island, unfortunately the website no longer works ! They were very basic.

I preesume you appreciate that July is rainy season , so although you can be lucky sailing around Phang Nga may or may not be great depending on weather. It is though the cheapest time of year for accommodation.

Just how basic did you want ?

Khao Lak is a possibility as some cheap places to stay.

Are you looking for away from touristy places or just a quieter beach area.

I am guessing you are looking for for natural areas?

How do you want to plan the days ? Are restaurants, shopping and bars important - I am guessing not, there are islands and beaches in the Gulf area with better weather at that time and plenty of cabana style beach places, thatched roof cabins, though yuo don't have to rough it too much ! ( with a/con, swimming pools etc )if you wanted sailing, snorkeling, trek styles etc, it really comes down to how you want to spend your time.

hi gillybarwick,

sorry to intrude but maybe i can post a question for myself here too?

i'm going to phuket 25-28 April and am also looking for a beach hut/hostel/hotel to stay at. I'm arriving around noon on the 25th and plan to perhaps do some beach activities before leaving on the 26th to Phi Phi for a night. Neither my partner and i can swim so we're only there for the water activities and definately snorkelling!

Where can we stay on Phuket? Definately Patpong is a no-no for me. Which is better, Kata, Karon or Kamala beach. Just looking for a very relaxing atmosphere with manageable choice of restaurants/bar and nice clear beaches. :)

Try Kata beach, end of April you have low season, one of the very best deals going is the 3 star Sugar Palm Kata, it's about SGD 36 a night including tax, service but without brekfast, SGD 40 'with' breakfast, for the SGD 2 each i would certainly go for the with breakfast option.

For about SGD 10 more you get a pool view room, but if you want cheap and comfortable hotel that deal at ugar Palm is excellent !!

That is a real bargain, it's a very short walk over to the beach and there are places to eat and some shops nearby

You say you cannot swim but want do do water activities - do be 'very careful.

Gilly, I hope some others will join in with ideas about the huts but unfortunately Phuket has grown so much over the years.

If you decided to go for an inexpensive place, the one I mentioned, Sugar Palm at Kata is about GBP 17 without breakfast for 2 or about gbp 19 with breakfast. It is though a hotel in a realively busy area though nothing like Patong, July is very much low season.

There are bamboo beach huts on Rang Yai Island which is not far from Royal Phuket Marina and Boat Lagoon Marina, It might be the place you're looking for.

The 'hut' days are probably over for Phuket..you are 10-15 years too late..

U need more googling.

I have stayed in huts years ago on Samui ..."Bill's...something.." Very nice at lamai beach.

Ton Sai village near Railay. Railay itself is developed past the hut stage. The area itself is spectacular..

For the other poster...April is "too darn hot" for me.. So hot u cant move..
