Bringing carved wood panels back to Australia

Hi

Am presently in Phuket and am wondering what exactly customs allows you to bring back into Australia regarding wooden carvings. I only want to bring back a few carved panels approx 30cm x 60cm.Also does any one know if you can safely bring back bamboo platters etc..Is it going to be a hassle?

Thanks

Sue

It's not going to be a hassle.

Check them for signs of insect activity and borer holes before you buy. That's exactly what quarantine will be doing on your arrival home, when you declare ALL your wooden/bamboo articles.

I bought back a large wood carved Eagle and that bloke with the turbin on Border Security had a really close look for insect infestation and gave it the all clear after about 10 minutes.

We have brought back many wooden products over many years and if you just be careful when purchasing and look for borers etc you should be fine.

We always bag any items like wood, bamboo, etc and spray them with insect spray then close the bay and leave for 24 hours before leaving.

Declare them and tell them what you have done any you should not have any problems.

Cheers, Pete.
