Similan Islands

We are going to be in phuket mid july and we were wondering if there are still day trips running out to similan islands in the low season?

Also has anyone been to these islands and if so are they good?

I believe the islands are closed from 16 May to 14 November each year.

Officially the parks are closed, but normally the rangers do allow trips anyway.

There are some scheduled trips, but on a trip very recently the park rangers stopped the boats. It seems they have orders from headoffice not to let anybody go there at the moment. This means at the moment the trip organisers are in negotiations with the rangers again, and it is not clear where that will lead to.

Its a long ride in what could be very choppy conditions that is why the boats don't go in the low season.
