No, haven't tried, but was wondering how much you paid for the airfare ? Flying direct from Melbourne would be great, but it would need to be pretty close to Air Asia prices, otherwise I'll endure the stopover. Last time (May) we each paid about $650 return, including meals and luggage allowance.
Hey magpie we havent flown as yet but will be doing on the 7th Jan with V Australia......so can let you know after we return of you like!
yes we flew V australia on thurs from Melb-Phuket and were very impressed. was not a spare seat on the plane! in seat screens with good range of movies and games, food was pretty good, seemed like a brand new plane. we have always flown Qantas/Jetstar but after re-routed flights and lost baggage on our june trip, the non-stop flight with V-Aust seemed like a good option and it was.
Been having a look at V, but l cant find any direst flights from Melbourne
Seems that they do stop over, in Perth
Some reviews www.airlinequality.com/Forum/v_australia.htm
Check either side of your chosen date.
Seems they fly Mel/Phuket direct on Thursday - then via Bne one or 2 days and via Per 2 days per week (although I note this changes during some weeks).
We have booked Syd/Phuket for May - via Bne going up and via Mel coming back ... but the overall flight times still compare favourably with other airlines (such as QF or TG) that transit via Bkk.
Suggest they may be changing routes to topup flights and keep them full
Thanks everyone for your responses,
"luv2travel2009", looking forward to your review,
"wildo" it was packaged up so not sure at the moment (at work) what price the air fare component was but it was a lot more than $650.
"Kate" glad you took the right option. It means i probably have as well.
"Murf01" Know what you mean, it took me ages to find direct flights out and back that were comaptible with our potential travel dates. Jeffs right, they are there if you spend a bit of time at it.
"shway" thanks for the link
Just for info' ...
We booked V Aus - Syd/Bne/Phuket and return Phuket/Mel/Syd (May 2010) for AU$766 return which we thought was good for a full service airline (includes meals, some drinks, 23kg luggage, entertainment, etc).
They did increase prices after we booked, but l see Jetstar has put on some specials for next year, so V Aus may come back down.
Good luck !
