Visiting other countries from Phuket

On February 22nd, after one week in Phuket, we will have ten days until we have to be in Hong Kong.

We would like to visit other countries beside Thailand and Hong Kong during that 10 day period. Perhaps, spend three days in three differrent places.

We have already been to Bancock.

Any suggestions.

Thanks, Jim and Carol

Easy now as Air Asia has just added a lot of direct flights from Phuket.

go to their website. They are a budget airlines and not great for being on time but great for budget travel.

You can also take long bus rides to Penang in Malaysia. I am not a fan of Penang though. A day trip to Burma perhaps too? Just to their crappy little border town but some people find it interesting. There is also a casino.

You should visit Siem Reap in Cambodia to see Angor Wat. Bangkok Airways fly there but via Bangkok.

Viet Nam, Malayasia, Cambodia would be my first 3 choices.

Laos, Burma, Borneo would be a little further down the list.

It's a big world with lots to see.

I used to travel fast and spend only a day or two in one place but have learned to slow down, get away from the areas the tourist books send you to, and get to know some locals and spend quality time with them.

For me, it is a better way to travel.

By the way, Phuket isn't really Thailand. It is more of a fantasy world.

Why not go into the interior of Thailand a bit during your extra time and meet some real Thai people. I think you'll be amazed.

I've been here 8 years and just came back from one of those trips and was amazed again. I was invited back to 2 houses for dinner after only knowing people for less than one hour.

Amazing Thailand

I would agree 100% with both those remarks.

I would fly Air Asia from Phuket to Bangkok then Phnom Penh, definately worth spending a few days there, then on to Siem Reap. They have cheap airfares on at the moment. Three days in 3 different places is a lot of flights and wasting time though, stay longer and have a good look around.

From Phuket, you can go to Singapore, KL, Saigon, Penang by air. Also Air Asia fly direct to Chiang Mai and Udan Thani within Thailand.

As others have said, I would spend time in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and surrounding areas (Golden Triangle, Mae Sae, Pai etc)
