Hotel with private access beach & easy access to food

Appreciate if anyone can recommend a hotel with above ?

I searched the forum and the last thread on quiet beach is dated 2009.

We've been to Holiday Inn Patong (nice but beach is too far and too crowded) and Le Meridien (nice but want to try elsewhere).

We are looking for beach-front hotel with reasonable access to outside restaurants. In Le Merdien, we had to pay for hotel shuttlebus or 200baht per taxi ride to Patong.

You have to pay for the shuttle bus at Le Meridian?

What about the new Centara Grand at north end of Karon Beach. Its within a short walk to Karon Restaurants and nightlife.

You could have a look at Merlin beach resort. It has it's own beach but it is a bit rocky for swimming. There is another beach over the road though. They run a shuttle into patong a few times a day and it goes on into phuket town on the 10am run. There is a very popular restaurant next door up a cliff. Also on either side of the beach they have massages.

Thanks. Please keep the suggestions coming.

Le Meridien - yes, hotel shuttle is not free.

new Centara Grand - seems promising except the pink look is kind of odd and need to research more about walk to the local restaurants.

If you want to be in Patong apparently the Patong Bay Garden has absolute beach access and is also in the middle of the area for restaurants etc.

Stayed at them all in Patong, ( only 3)

La- Flora is the best , but the most expensive.

Patong bay Garden is the worst , but the cheapest.

Impiana is in the middle.

My suggestion, if you can afford it , LaFlora, we love it there, the best hotel in Patong IMO , when you weigh up everything, including location.

I second Merlin Beach resort, with linda, its best of both worlds, close enough to go into Patong and far enough out to relax, we have stayed there a few times and love it, if you don't mind using their shuttle (free) 5 min ride, then its great,

their own little beach/bay is nice at high tide but very rocky not good swimming (as said by linda) but Tri Trang beach just across the road is lovely and so quiet, it has a beach bar, massage and resturant there too, also Little Tiger restaurant just out the back of MBR off the beach is very good thai food and cheap, great at sunset, good massage at each end of the beach and you can also get laudry done by them too

here's a link to a few photo's http://tiny.cc/2drfw

there are 3 big pools but i only have photo's of the 2, main one and pool access

Graceland is nice too, north end of Patong, not direct beach access you have to cross the road, (which could be a pain when they reverse the one way system) but its a nice part of Patong beach, not in the same catorgary as Le Meridien, MBR or Holiday Inn but its not too bad if you get a good room type, http://tiny.cc/m9fgy few photo's

On the other side of the island in Rawai The Evason is lovely, not in a touristy area so you have to get their shuttle or taxi into Patong or Phuket town (and yes they charge too) for shopping, they have a lovely little island that they run a longtail boat (complimentary) to every 30 mins, we had a day sala on the island recently and it was fantastic, their infinity pool is amazing and 3 big pools and great day spa, you can walk outside the resort for other dining options http://tiny.cc/o225u

others resorts mentioned: Katathani, Kata beach resort and La Flora all good too

We have stayed a couple of times at the Dusit Laguna Resort at Bang Tao Beach. It is a very nice resort and the beach is just beyond the lawns of the hotel. The resort also has a great pool and a couple of good restaurants. Right on Bang Tao beach there are many restaurants, some of which serve pretty good food. You also have access to a shuttle bus which takes you to other resorts in the complex as you are entitled to use any of the facilities - even those of the Banyon Tree which is also in the Laguna complex.

We also stayed in the Kris Hotel on Bang Tao which is less expensive but still nice and right on the beach. There are also heaps of small restaurants around it.

After staying in Phuket many times, we have settled on the Northern beaches of Bang Tao and Surin Beach as our preferred area- away from Patong which I don't like at all but still with great restaurants and simple and delicious local food as well.
