Alcohol Sales in the next few weeks....

Just read this online in the Phuket Gazette:

"Alcohol sales will be restricted island-wide for the PPAO elections next weekend, while Patong will face consecutive weekend alcohol bans due to municipal council elections in that subdistrict the following weekend."

Ok, so we arrive September 1st to Karon.....will we be able to drink??? Is Karon in that subdistrict?

Any advice would be appreciated :)

No alcohol sales on the whole of Phuket on 26 August, no alcohol sales in Patong on 2 September. So if staying in Karon from 1 September onwards this should not affect you.

The little mom and pop shops almost never enforce these rules. So, if you don't plan ahead, just wander down a back road a bit and you'll find a shop that is happy to sell you a beer or two or more. The name brand 7-11s, Family Marts, etc. will enforce the bans as they apply. Many Super Cheap mini-markets don't enforce the hours restrictions.
