I'd suggest a mini van or hiring a driver - you can try Phuket Shuttle... www.phuketshuttle.com

I would try Phuket shuttle as you won't get all your luggage in a taxi.

Book with your hotel. We are looking at around $40.00 maximum for a good car/van to do the airport run. Try to get a taxi in Australia to take you that far for that amount.

A tight squeeze for 4 adults plus luggage. Fare to Patong should only be about 700 baht for a taxi so at AU$40 the hotel is charging a premium.

Check the FAQs for recommended drivers.

I agree $40 is crazy for a one way trip. There are plenty of recommended drivers on the forum with mini vans who do this run for 700-800baht.

Four people with luggage will definitely not fit in the meter taxi. We caught one from the airport to Patong a few days ago, only one suitcase will fit in the boot, both of us sat in the back and our hand luggage took the front seat :)

They have also gone back to using their meters, you pay 100baht at the Taxi Kiosk then pay the driver what is on the meter, from airport to northern end of Patong was 625baht, so a total of 725 for the ride.

Better book a mini van. You can even ask your hotel to arrange a van for you.
