Do I book my attractions online or there?

Hi, me and my husband have booked to go to Phuket early August for 8 nights. There are tons of things I want to do. Do I book my atttractions now online or when I arrive?

I have come across this website - http://www.phukethotdeals.com and wonder if anyone has used them before. They have also quoted me up the below

return transfers to the airport and hotel

Fantasea show

Phi Phi Island Tour by speedboat

Whitewater rafting and elephant treking

Sunset dinner cruise

Thai cooking classes

Sightseeing tour

for 22,200 Baht

Is that really good? It is heaps cheaper than booking through Flight Centre but just want some thoughts on prebooking.

Also is August going to be beach weather?

Thanks in advance

If that price is for 2 people, I guess it's pretty good. More than I'd pay, but maybe only by 20% or so. Way too much if it's per person. Unless you are booking the big players like Simba or PST, most people book when they get there at a street agent. You haggle over price.

August weather is the weather you get in August. I know that sounds glib, but truly, Phuket weather in low season is a bit of a lottery. This year we went in February (high season), and we've had better weather in July. August is not meant to be the best for beach weather, but I've read posts on TA from people who go in August every year and say the weather has been great. Just be wary of water conditions, especially if you haven't grown up with rips.

I have to say it sounds very cheap. I usually wait until I get there to make bookings for tours etc., although some boat trips I book well in advance. I also book a driver for the day in advance. It is always going to be cheaper than flight centre August is usually a quiet time so you should have no problem booking things when you arrive. You can usually go to the beach anytime as it will be warm but seas could be rough.

22,200 Baht is for two people and includes all transfers and most of them include lunch or dinner. We are staying in Kata Beach is that walkable distance to a street agent?

Street agents are everywhere and if you wait until you arrive you can be flexible with your itinerary especially as you won't know what the weather will be like and the sea conditions in August.

This 'deal' will be very much in the favour of the supplier and not for you! I would book it all myself individual packages. You will not be getting the best experiences for your money I would expect.

We book popular tours before we go. Also if we are not flexible on dates then book beforehand.

I bet you could book this yourself and get the better companies and deal direct, and not be much more.

However! Phi Phi in August may not be the best idea. If you go with one of the trips bought cheaply from the street traders then you may regret it, as the sea can be rough and they don't give a fig about your safety. Book with one of the more expensive tours, like Phuket Sail Tours, then you will have a much better experience, less passengers and they will cancel if there is a risk to your safety. The sea and the waves are not kind to speedboats when the sea is rough (we have 2 fractured and crushed vertebra and a bent coccyx to prove this). So, the moral of this tail is, pick your operator wisely - cheap is not best in this case; don't be disappointed if it gets cancelled as it is your safety the operator has considered; and look at recommendations on the forum to great experiences!

Street agents as their name says, are on the street. There are streets in Kata Beach with shops selling tours.

Never pay for any Thailand service online. They are much more expensive and you may even get caught in miscommunication. Do it there for cheaper and better personal service. No matter where you stay, a travel agent near.

Hello Christine.

You can book online if the company is reputable. Checking a company's reputation is what TA is very good for.

For stuff like Fantasea etc, it really doesn't matter who you book with, just shop around for a cheap price. The agents will be discounting out of their commission, so the product remains the same.

With tours, particularly boat tours, it matters a great deal who you book with. If you are booking through an agent, remember they are not the ones running the tour. You really need to check the reputation of the company that actually provides the tour. Again, TA is good for this. Look at 'things to do' above, go to 'activities' and also ask questions here on the forum. Quality and safety, like price, vary greatly.

The weather in August can be anything. Expect a few wet days, a few fine days, and a lot of mixed up weather days. It won't be cold.

Good luck,

Mark.

Last poster runs a tour, so beware.

Yes, that is right Flashpack. That is why I put the name of my company. It would be dishonest to post without revealing my background.

It is also why I know what I am talking about.

Unlike some of the posts I have seen today. For instance "Never pay for any Thailand service online". Which is quite untrue, there are many reputable companies that can be paid on line.
