JBR- Phuket

have been home a couple of weeks now and thought I really should share some things from our trip, as what I learnt from others was a great help to us,

there 3 of us in our group, we flew airasia from gold coast, great flight, on time, could not complain at all, flights cost next to nothing, and couple of hours wait time in KL for connecting flight flew.

we were picked up by Mr Chai, which was pre-booked for THB600, he could not make it so sent his side kick, he could not speak English and drove very very fast!! If we had not been to Phuket before I would have been worried, Mr Chai did call us in the taxi and apologized for not being there. We decided to cancel to day tour booked with him as did not want that driver again.

Hotel -we stayed at Phuket resort, they had a great stay 8 pay 4 deal, room was very spacious for the 3 of us, and great position, breakfast was pretty good, although not the biggest or best I have had, you would have to be a winger if you could not find enough to eat there!

We caught the locals bus a few times into Phuket town, very easy, just go to the beach road and wave it down, from anywhere, comes about every 20mins and costs thb30. got a taxi driver one day from Phuket town to take us to the dentist , Phuket Dental centre, (best dentist I have been to in my entire life) had 2 major fillings removed and replaced and my daughter had 7 seals put in , total cost $200, in Aus quote for seals were about $100 each.

we then went to Budha, rang hill and sea gypsy village, all up driver was about 4.5 hours, cost THB300.

Did a day tour around island including the South, and then up to Bangpae waterfall, stopping at all the usual sights, had about 6./7 hours and paid THB900 with taxi driver, we had contacted all the drivers recommended from this site and their prices were way over priced, some up to THB2500, all over THB1800, the taxi driver we found had pretty good English and a great driver, mr Nakhorn was his name, he parks just on the South of Bangla Rd, grey 4WD,

we also did 1 hour Elephant treking at the NOrthern end of Patong Beach, we paid THB 550 PP, the tour is advertised for about THB1300 or something like that,, for goodness sake look around until you get a good price, I asked others on the same trip and they had all paid well over THB1000 each for the same tour as us!

Dinner, we struggled to find dinners as cheap as I wanted (total bargain hunter here) but Sweets, Enjoy, break-free were still pretty good value at under AUD5 per person for dinner, No.6 I can not recommend highly enough, we took the bus up the hill option, just fantastic, lovely setting and views and still came in at under my budget of AUD 5 for dinner,

drinks, we bought our drinks from 7/11 and similar stores, beer $1 can, whisky cheap too, we also got hooked on the huge ice-coffee and milo from the machines at 70c each, also ate a lot if cornetto's at just 70c each. We also bought breads, cakes, and buffet type salad bar from the large supermarket in Big C. to snack on for lunch, worked out very cheap for a snack between our large breakfasts and dinners.

Had suit and daughters formal gown made at Georges, in Bangla Rd, they were not the cheapest, but still very good value and very happy with the quality and end result.

Tattoo- hubby got a very large cover up at Aussie Ink, opposite hard rock cafe, he is so happy with it, he gets many compliments on it too, its a large dragon, which seemed to be something they specialized in a little.

Shopping, bought the usual copy singlets, t-shirts, normal ones thb 150, sprakle ones up to thb 200, copy handbags max I paid was thb950, and got a couple.

been to Phuket 4 times now, still love it, the only thing I can say to most people is you can get things much cheaper than most people do, I heard many people talking about prices they had paid for all things and I knew I had often paid 50% less than what they were paying, of course only do that if you enjoy bargaining, as it is hard work!

Enjoy your trip's

Loved your JBR, don't you love the bargains and also the great cheap flights with Air Asia, although we are now going Scoot from the Gold Coast, it pretty good too. Off to Phuket in October. My future Daughter-in-law needs a wedding dress made and was thinking to have it made in Phuket when they are there in August, do you think Georges could do a good job on a wedding dress?

Cheers Chrissy

Chrissyi, most of the taylors there will not touch womens clothing, we were really happy with the gowm , fits great and well made, I would also talk with the recommended ta taylor in the rear of the otop markets, near the aussie bars (can't remember his name) he has a lady come in for his lady clients, and she specialised in gowns, we did not go with him. because the lace choice he had was not the ones my daughter wanted.

timeshare touts, were no problem too us, we did not take anything people tried to hand us, a lot of them are English and you think they are tourists trying to be friendly, again do not accept anything and you will have no problems
