Checklist of "must takes" to Phuket

Hi guys,

I thought I would restart a thread that has been done a couple of times but thought the latest info could help a few (mainly me). I have decided to get a checklist together so that I don't forget something we will need. I know we can get most things while we are there but if anyone can add anything to the list that would help I would be greatly appreciative. We are staying in Patong at the Deevana resort for 15 days from the 27th of August. We can't wait.

Anyway I'll start with the list I have so far;

Insect repellent with DEET

International drivers licence

Passport photocopies (never leave original with anyone)

Chargers for phone/camera/laptop

Notify credit card you'll be overseas (or it won't work)

Travel insurance

That is a start but I'm sure the experienced people of TA will be able to add valuable information to my list of obvious points. I'm not worried that I'll go unprepared I think this is just my "pre holiday therapy" in an attempt to make the next 20 days go a bit quicker.

Thanks in advance to any replies

Airline etickets and hotel confirmation letter.

We also email ourselves a copy of all our important information, passports, emergency contacts, card numbers and applicable phone numbers if they are lost or stolen, insurance numbers etc.

Also a small power lead so that you can plug several chargers, laptop etc in at once

Sunscreen is a must even though you can buy it from supermarket or pharmacy over there but that are not cheap.

Whilst I take most of the above (but not stuff I can buy there), I save copies of my important stuff (passport, driving licences, etickets, insurances, etc etc) as pdfs on my laptop and also email them to myself so I can access when away if needed. and always say money, tickets, passport as I leave the house there are several things you can't pack . . .

A smile and friendly face

A happy attitude to go with the flow and accept I am in Thailand

A relaxed approach to 'mix ups' or paying a dollar more

Yep, again most of the above,

Camera and leads

Laptop and leads

Power Board and adaptor

The most important thing I pack is care packages for all my Thai friends!!!

Then I try to pack minimally, unless I plan on not shopping

I will be going to phuket for the first time in December and have made a list as well after reading all of the tips on TA. In addition to the list I have put a small pocket sized calculator to convert prices when I am shopping and also a waterproof bag for my phone, hotel keys and money when I go swimming. Read that a few people get their stuff stolen when they go for a swim so thought the pouch would just give me a piece of mind.

For those that have difficulty converting their home country into say baht, they may like to try this cheat sheet.

Simply a matter of entering a few details and you get a print out of varying denominations converted to whatever currency you nominate.
