JBR 16/9 - 23/9 Karon - Week 1

Well we've been home just over a week now and it seems soooo long ago already! Anyway, this is what we did on our 3rd holiday to Phuket.....

We are 2 families - us 2 adults & 2 kids (3rd time to Phuket) & 2 adults & 3 kids (1st timers!!)

Day 1 Mon 16/9 - Arrival day - Flew with Singapore Airlines, all good. Arrived at Phuket Airport to be met by our best Thai friend John (local driver - great man!) to drive us to our hotel. Staying at Centara Karon Resort in Karon. Got there about midday and found the pool bar and we never left it for the whole day hahaha!!! As you can imagine it was a BIG day!! Did manage to leave the pool and go for tea at Karon Seafood which was a leisurely stroll up the street from the resort, then early to bed.

Day 2 Tues 17/9 - Familiarise with nearby shops and restaurants, tuk tuk to Patong for a bit of shopping and lunch at Jungceylon at a good place, yummy thai food just before the irish pub but can't remember the name sorry....back to the resort for some swimming and to visit our new friend "Phet" the pool bar guy! Tea at Two Chefs in Karon - very yummy!

Day 3 Weds 18/9 - Phuket Sail Tours Speedboat Tour to Phang Nga Bay - AWESOME day!!! This is the second time we have done this tour (& 3rd trip with PST). This tour is absolutely the BEST day out on a boat you can have :) The weather was perfect and not many people on the boat, only about 16 people which meant plenty of room on board. (including some wonderful new PAC friends!!) The good Captain Mark was on board which made for a very informative and fun trip! The crew had a blast running a muck with our kids on the rope swings and having water fights - it was great! The food at the village was once again the best food ever :))

Back to Karon and had dinner at Red Onion - had to line up for about 15 minutes to get a table but was worth it - very yummy and very chea

Day 4 - Thurs 19/9 - Foot massages, Karon shopping, Patong shopping, lunch again at Jungceylon at Urban Restaurant (very good - huge big meat kebabs!) Back to the pool again at the resort and then dinner in Karon at Vitaporn - delicious thai food!

Day 5 - Fri 20/9 - Day trip out n about with our good Thai friend John. Went to Big Buddha (we went 2 years ago so it was good to see the difference - still a way to go tho...). Blessed by the monk. Went to the Cashew Factory & had a big spend up - yummo! Down to Rawai Beach for lunch at Nikitas - beautiful location on the sand overlooking the sea, yummy food and great company! Then went for a walk around Rawai beach area and the pier. Up to Promthep Cape, great lookout. Made our way back to Karon, more swimming in the pool then back to Two Chefs for dinner (but meal not so good tonight?). Another foot massage on the way home.... nice & relaxing :)

Day 6 - Sat 21/9 - Quiet day hanging around the resort and the pool, I wasn't feeling great. Had a big night planned, but didn't end up so big. This was our night to catch up with some fellow PAC's at Nicky's Handlebar in Patong. Ventured into Patong early evening (I put on a brave face hoping to get into full swing and feel good). Met some lovely people and made some new friendships. Nickys is an awesome spot with some amazing expensive "toys" for the boys (& girls!!). This place is definitely worth checking out - heaps of Harley stuff, cool cars, artistic creations, accommodation and great food and atmosphere! Unfortunately I wasn't feeling real good & either was my sister in law, so we had to make an early exit..... Me, SIL & the kids caught a tuk tuk back to resort & left the hubbies out to play......

Day 7 - Sun 22/9 - Me & SIL still weren't feeling well so we kept a low profile most of the day, while everyone else just chilled by the pool & did some local shopping. By late arvo we were feeling better and things were looking up :)

Day 8 - Mon 23/9 - Thai Cooking Class at the hotel today. First stop was a local market - OMG our entrance to the market was a shocker - the stink of the pig guts was enough to make everyone want to make a quick exit hahaha!! Anyway, we soon moved past that and got to see all the different foods etc - fish, frogs (dead & alive), eels, spices, fruits, vegies etc - it was really interesting & we really liked it (except for the stink in the meat section!!). Back to the hotel and cooked up the yummiest meal ever. More swimming then took the kids to Dino Park Mini Golf in Kata - we all played a round of mini golf and guess who won..... ME!!! Had dinner there, it was just ok. Kids got to feed the baby elephant that comes out the front in the evenings. Back to the hotel, gotta pack the bags coz we are moving on to Krabi tomorrow.......

Great report. We are hopefully taking our kids on the same PST tour. How old are you kids? Mine are 6 and 12, I just worry about the 6 year old as he can't really swim yet.

Bonnibinx our kids ranged from 8-14. Any swimming is done at a sheltered beach & life jackets are available.

Hi Bec, great to hear that you enjoyed your holiday and that you had a good day with us. Thank you for letting us know. Sorry I didn't get a chance to catch up with you later, I was looking forward to it. Snowed under here. Last time I take a week off to go away when it is school holidays in Oz.

Hi to the gang for me.

Me.
