We returned to Patong for our 4th trip 15/9 and returned 29/9
Before leaving I checked the weather forecast for the two weeks and it looked really bad, but I thought what would they know and we would be on holidays so who cares. We had two days in which we had torrential downpours at around 6.30pm. The first one was while I was residing at the Aussie Bar watching the Prelimary Final, down it came for half hour- No problems. Second one was again at 6.30pm while we were shopping, again not a problem, we hid under a shop awning for another half hour. The only problem was we were heading for the Sabai Beach Restaurant, once we turned right from Banglia Rd, Beach Rd was in darkness. So change of plans we returned to our Resort and had tea there.
This holiday we stayed at Sawaddi Patong Resort, see separate review. This resort is about two and half blocks inland, roughly a little further inland from the hospital. We will consider staying there next trip, it is not as flash as other hotels and is fairly small at 140+ rooms and is very well priced. Clean rooms and clean pool and we found the staff very friendly, we believe that if you visit with a friendly disposition it goes along way to make your holiday.
Highlights of our trip were-
2 trips with Phuket Sails, this time we did Phi Phi again, Capt Mark escorted us it was a little rough on the way out and a bit rougher on the way home. Did this have a damper on our trip, No, enjoyable as last year. The second, was Phang Nga Bay via speedboat with Cat Mark in tow, this trip was very different to our trip of 3 years ago. Activities were floating village for lunch, Rock Art, James Bond Island, Ancient Rock Art, 1,000year old tree, swimming and snorkelling. When we had lunch one of our party was a vegetarian and the restaurant supplied 4 dishes especially for her, there was enough food for 3 vegetarians.
2 road trips the first being around the southern part of the island, every trip we go to the Big Budda to see how farther they have got. This time we visited Phuket Aquarium, what a pleasant surprise 100baht to enter, very interesting and well worth visiting if you can include in your itinerary. We had lunch up on Rangi Hill, view was awesome and relatively cheap, once again we wold recommend. Second trip we travelled up north of the island and had a look at the 5Star hotels and finished up at the Phuket Royal Marina, we know where we would like to spend if we win Lotto.
Donna had a ring made by P & C Jewelry, cost was 17,000Baht (Aus $580), we have just had it valued in Australia and all I can say WOW we have got a winner there.
We ate out most of the time for tea and would recommend highly No. 6 Seafood (up the hill), Eat 24 (near the Sawaddi Resort) very cheap Sabai Beach and Nickys. Also icecreams at Swenson’s @ Jungcelyon and Banana Walk on Beach Rd. Pancakes off the street carts.
We also had a PAC get together at Nickys where it was great to meet Sue, Rebecca, Tracey and Byron and their families, what a great night was had by all. If you have a chance to go to Nickys make shore that you ask to have a look at the bikes and the hotel out the back, you will be suitably impressed.
We are now home planning our next trip for next year, hoping that it is 48weeks until we depart again.
